As of today, this is the latest, eighth generation Corvette. And although I really like all generations of this model, it is the eighth car that was revolutionary. As you know, this is the first, center-engine Corvette, and the history of this sports car began back in ’53. In my opinion, the development of the model was quite linear from the second to the 7th generation inclusive. They were cars with a long, wedge-shaped hood. It is the central-engine layout that makes the Chevrolet look like not only a Ferrari or McLaren, but also a Ford GT. This is a very technologically advanced car, whose body lift system lifts the Corvette up 5cm in just 3sec. Just imagine that compared to the 7th generation, the C8’s interior compartment has been moved forward by 42cm!
The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is the fastest production car of this model in history. Also under the hood of this car is the most powerful, atmospheric V8 among production cars. Today, the demand for such a car is very high, and dealers often make a solid markup. But it should be understood that the base Corvette C8 is a very fast, but more comfortable in daily use. It’s worth noting that the base for the Z06 chassis is the C8R race car.
Price and cost of 2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8.
In the United States, you can buy a brand new, Chevrolet Corvette C8 for $60,000. This is the cost of the base car. And despite the fact that options can raise the cost of Corvette up to 90 thousand dollars, – it is still a very low price. Let’s remember that this is a center-engine car with the characteristics of an Italian supercar.
The recommended cost of a 2022 Chevrolet Corvette C8 Z06 is between 115 and 150 thousand dollars. But finding a car at that price at a dealer can be difficult. Notably, the first C8 Z06 was sold at a Barrett-Jakson auction for $3.6 million dollars. The owner of the car was Rick Hendrick, – the man who bought the first C8 for 3,000,000 dollars. In both cases, the money went to charity.
Given the fact that this is the first, center-engine Corvette, and the very possible focus on electric propulsion in the near future, both slots could increase in value significantly.

Visually, the 8th generation car differs from the 7th just dramatically. Many may remember the moment of the release of the C6, – then it seemed that it was an evolution of the C5 model. C8 has become absolutely new car. Probably, you can’t see it from the photo, but the right mirror post is longer than the left one. Cameras are installed not only in the front and rear bumper, but also above the glass of the engine compartment lid. This camera displays the image on the interior mirror.
2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8 in Z51 package can be recognized by inscriptions on brake calipers. By the way, the Z06 has 6-piston calipers at the front instead of 4-piston calipers.
The optional carbon fiber roof that is offered for the Z06 costs $20,000. Carbon fiber, wheel rims cost $12,000. Notably, the unpainted fiber rims are even slightly more expensive. Carbon fiber wheels reduce unsprung weight by 18.6kg. For the Corvette Z06 are offered and carbon ceramic, brake disks with a diameter of 398mm – in front and 391mm – in the rear. Such an option costs $8,500.
The front tires of the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 are 275/30 R20, while the rear tires are 345/25 R21.
Visually distinguish the base Corvette and Z06 is easiest to distinguish from the side, by the shape of the air intakes. Notice in the photo, the orange car is the Z06. Also these cars are very easy to distinguish from the rear, – if the base C6 has 4 exhaust pipes are taken out by 2, on the sides, then the Z06 has 4 three large pipes are taken out in the center.

As on many supercars, the doors of the Corvette are equipped with electric locks. To open them, you need to press a button hidden in the area of the side air intake. But if the battery dies, you can’t open the door that way. In this case, you will have to find the lock latch, located sozhu in the air intake.
It is noteworthy that on the keychain, the Corvette symbol is applied not only on the back, but also on the side – on a metal overlay. In addition, there is an engine start button on the keychain.
When you open the door you can see the Z06 designation, on the doorstep of the most powerful Corvette. The Z06 designation is also stamped on the bottom of the steering wheel rim. Note its shape – the steering wheel is not round, but has almost flat lines at the top and bottom.
The role of the dashboard is performed by a 12-inch monitor, the graphics on which changes depending on the selected mode. So in sport mode the dashboard becomes red, and in track mode more attention is given to the selected gear rather than speed. In the latter mode even tire temperature is displayed on the screen.
The cigarette lighter is located in a very unusual place – it is above the passenger’s legs. It seems that designers simply did not find a suitable place for it. At the same time, most of the buttons are located on the center console between the driver and passenger. Buttons responsible for settings in the driver’s area are above, and buttons responsible for the passenger’s area are below. A wireless charger is installed between the seats, and above it is the speaker of the music system. Behind the grid of the latter, at a certain angle of view you can notice a symbol of Corvette.
Above we have mentioned about a salon mirror on which the image from a rearview camera is displayed. I would like to add that the picture can be zoomed in and out, as well as lowered and raised.
Chevrolet Corvette C8 is notable for very capacious trunks. The combined volume of the front and rear trunk is 357 liters. In the front trunk there is a button to open the trunk from inside. Interestingly, the button has an image of a man running out of the trunk. The roof can be removed and put in the rear trunk. By the way, the engine compartment and trunk lid have electric retractors. The roof itself is removed very easily, you need to turn 2 latches – in the front and one in the back.
2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8 Engine and Specifications.
The engine of the base Corvette C8 is LT2. It is an atmospheric V8 with a displacement of 6.2 liters. This engine develops a power of 490 horsepower and traction of 637N.M. Of course, this motor is equipped with a dry sump lubrication system, and its crankshaft is set 1 inch lower than that of the previous generation. The engine is mated exclusively to an 8-speed robotized transmission. The Z51 package, which includes a modified exhaust system, increases power by 5 horsepower and torque by 7 nm. This package also includes an electronic locking differential, Magnetic Ride adjustable suspension and carbon fiber panels in the engine compartment trim.
The Corvette can accelerate to 100km per hour in 2.9sec, the quarter mile takes 11.2sec, and the top speed is 312km per hour. Half of the cylinders in this engine can be deactivated.
Interestingly, the engine of the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette C8 Z06 is slightly smaller in displacement, at 5.5 liters. But it’s considerably more powerful. 760 horsepower is achieved at 8,400 rpm. Maximum torque of 623N.M is achieved at 6,300 rpm. The compression ratio of the LT6 engine is 12.5:1. It is filled with 7.6 liters of oil. Up to 100km per hour Z06 is able to accelerate in 2.6sec, to pass a quarter mile is enough 10.5sec. The LT6 engine is decorated with a tag with the name of the person who assembled it.
Already the base Corvette has very high, dynamic performance. Z06 is even faster, but due to the high markup of dealers it is already very expensive, although it is still much cheaper than Italian cars.
